A month ago I finally found some time to spend on a well-loved activity which I have been neglecting for a long time; sewing. Sewing for me has three advantages. The first, and perhaps the most obvious one, is making clothes that fit one’s body perfectly. The second advantage? Sewing is zen. While I sew, I don’t think about anything other than the next stitch. No over thinking things, no analyzing how to save the world; in that moment, there is nothing but sewing. It is a cool way to clear your head and get into the mode of ‘doing.’ Finally, the third reason; it’s cheaper! As a female singer, I can’t speak for men here, prices for concert related clothing can get pretty steep with each gala dress costing around 200 euros. So I decided to refashion a few concert items to better fit my needs.
Check out a few photos of my latest refashioned items.
I learnt how to sew from the formidable ILANA SINGER (her given name… I kid you not!). Whilst at a sewing studio, I managed to sew a beautiful coat and even an evening dress. However, since moving to The Netherlands, I haven’t been doing much with all that knowledge – and I have missed it!
Here is a photo of a dress I made.
A lovely surprise: After sharing my work on Instagram and Facebook accounts, I was approached by a lady in my network that was looking for a singer to give a dress to for free! Thank you internet for making this possible 🙂
Let me know what you think. Do you want to see the new gala dress refashioned? Let me know in the comments below.

Sewing is indeed the Zen Activity!!!
The dresses you showed us, look like works of art.
Hope you wear them at concerts and events and everyone will enjoy your wonderful voice and your beauty.
This is a really beautiful post Michal, I would love to see what you are crafting next 🙂
Looking great! I love that colour on you. It suits the autumn concerts I think. You could do a bit more on the autumn dress like you did on the purple one…but it shouldn’t be too much. I have to say I like it as it is now! Great work!
