It’s been a week and a bit since I got back from the first period of rehearsals of Smetana’s Die verkaufte Braut with Opera Noord Holland- Noord and the International Belcanto Academy. These sure were 10 intense days. We got most of the blocking and main scenes done- can you believe that? In 10 days- and we’re still functioning 🙂 I have to say I was a bit scared of the rush we might be in to put together so much in such a short time. Sometimes projects go on for months, and you still reach the performances with the feeling that one can still do with additional 2 weeks of rehearsals.

Here’s a taste of what we got so far:

This time I’m portraying the role of Kathinka. I see her as a bossy woman ruling with an iron fist over the life of Kruschina- her quiet and gentle husband. I love how she’s the only one in the entire opera having an issue with marrying off her daughter without her consent, even though in the end her opinion doesn’t prevail.
